Although the theme of this blog differs from the previous one, it is still connected to a common subject: man.
Our thoughts, emotions and consciousness can only be a side effect of biological evolution. Why? Because we are made up of cells - the fundamental units of life that form organs and systems, and which in turn create the entire organism. You can compare this with bees in a Bijenkorf: Elke Bee has its own role, but the entire colony exists to keep the queen alive and to guarantee the reproduction of the species.
In the same way, a single cell does not survive alone - she has to collaborate with others. In the course of evolution, cells began to organize in increasingly complex structures that optimized their chances of survival. At a certain moment the brain arose - an organ that had to coordinate the functioning of all cells and increased the chances of survival of the organism.
But was the brain originated to think? Or is thinking and consciousness just a by -product of survival mechanisms? The neurons in our brains communicate with each other, just like bees in the basket - they send signals, respond to stimuli and strive for keeping the organism alive. Consciousness may have arisen as a by -product of this complex network - something that was not the original purpose of evolution, but gave us an extra advantage.
If that is true, who are we? Are our identity and emotions just an illusion, a product of biological processes? Or is consciousness a little more - something that goes beyond the mechanisms of evolution?
